Decision on corporators tomorrow
CBD BELAPUR: The NCP could be in for a major setback on Monday when a decision is likely to be announced on the disqualification proceedings against three corporators from Digha.
The final hearing of the trio was conducted on Saturday by municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
The election department of NMMC had issued show-cause notices on April 21 to corporators Navin Gavte (ward 4), his wife Aparna Gavte (ward 9) and sister-in-law Deepa Gavte (ward 3). The three are accused of resorting to illegal constructions in Digha.
The trio could lose their membership of the house if found guilty of the charges against them.
They have denied any wrong doing, claiming they have not resorted to any illegal construction in the area.
A political observer said, “If the trio is disqualified, it will have ramifications on the political scene in the city.”
The NCP is already short of majority on its own and losing three corporators would be a major setback. “There is also no guarantee that in case of reelection, the NCP will win the three seats,” he said.
