20-year-old driver ar­rested for killing room­mate in Uran Gangs in­volved in 46 theft cases busted, stolen goods seized

The Uran po­lice ar­rested a 20-year-old driver on Tues­day af­ter he al­legedly killed his room­mate on Mon­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the ac­cused, Asish Rawat, and Vit­ti­ram Kol, 32, both from Mad­hya Pradesh, stayed in a rented house. They worked as drivers in dif­fer­ent com­pa­nies.

Rawat re­turned home drunk on Sun­day and started as­sault­ing Kol. When Kol re­sisted, Rawat punched him on his neck. Kol suf­fered se­vere in­ter­nal in­jury. “Rawat stran­gled him to death,” said NG Ma­jge, po­lice in­spec­tor from Uran po­lice sta­tion.

Ma­jge said, “Rawat’s fa­ther died a few years ago in their vil­lage. Rawat be­lieved that Kol had killed his fa­ther through black magic. He had de­cided to take re­venge and was look­ing for a chance to com­mit the crime.”

“We be­lieve he sin­gle hand­edly com­mit­ted the crime and no one else was in­volved with him,” an­other po­lice of­fi­cer said.

The po­lice have booked the ac­cused un­der sec­tion 302 (pun­ish­ment for mur­der) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code .

He has been re­manded in po­lice cus­tody till June 30.

The Navi Mum­bai crime branch has in two sep­a­rate in­stances, ar­rested eight ac­cused in­volved in at least 46 cases of house break-ins. The po­lice have seized goods worth Rs39.56 lakh from them.

The ac­cused of the first gang have been iden­ti­fied as Ra­jku­mar Pan­chal, 34, Mehmood An­sari alias Pila Pappu, 46, Anil Ke­shar­vani, 30, and Nars­ingh Chauhan, 25.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice com­mis­sioner He­mant Na­grale, “A trap was then laid and Ra­jku­mar and Pappu were first ar­rested. Af­ter their in­ter­ro­ga­tion, the other gang mem­bers were ar­rested.”

Na­grale said, “In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that they were in­volved in 23 house break-ins. We have re­cov­ered Rs 19.88 lakh worth of stolen prop­erty from them. These in­clude 71 tola of gold jew­ellery. They had mort­gaged the jew­ellery to Muthoot and Ma­nipu­ram Fi­nance com­pa­nies.”

The gang was in­volved in thefts in Kopar Khairane, Ra­bale, Nerul, Turbhe, Pan­vel and Uran. They also have cases reg­is­tered against them at Bhi­wandi, Bhi­wandi city, Bhoi­wada, Ni­mama­pura, Nau­pada Gore­gaon, Ghatkopar, Mahim, Khar and Din­doshi po­lice sta­tions.

The ar­rested ac­cused of the other gang have been iden­ti­fied as Kisan Vhankore, Sanchin Chankore and Ma­hadev Vhankore. “Kisan and Sachin are broth­ers are rob­bers. Their fa­ther Ma­hadev helped them dis­pose the stolen prop­erty,” said Na­grale.

The po­lice have re­cov­ered Rs19.68 lakh worth of goods which in­cludes 37.865 gms of gold jew­ellery, two-wheeler, cam­era and cash. Na­grale said they were wear­ing stolen jew­ellery. The rest of the jew­ellery had been mort­gaged and was re­cov­ered. The po­lice have solved 23 cases of thefts.
