Trouble mounts for Sena minister Waikar
The Maharashtra minister of state for housing Ravindra Waikar, who is facing allegations of illegal construction and grabbing 20 acres of land in Aarey Colony, has now been accused of securing contracts for slum redevelopment projects in Jogeshwari for a realty firm in which he is said to have stakes.
Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam accused the Shiv Sena leader of facilitating permissions to execute the projects by tweaking rules. According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and a judgement of Bombay HC, the permissions should not have have been issued as the project falls within a radius of 300 metres from the Jogeshwari caves, a heritage site.
Waikar, however, refuted the allegations, saying he was not attached to the firm when permissions to the buildings were given.
