Civic chief sacks 13 NMMT staffers
Thirteen permanent employees of NMMT — nine conductors and four drivers — have been sacked by the administration for absenteeism.
The administration had earlier sacked 212 contract workers for the same reason.
The action has been taken on the orders of municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe who has taken serious note of absenteeism and indiscipline in the transport body. “Those removed from service have been punished for not reporting to work for long. They have been blacklisted. The administration has requested other public transport bodies to not recruit them,” said Mundhe.
It has also issued show-cause notices to 14 traffic inspectors He said an inquiry will be conducted against them and decision on them will soon be taken.
Mundhe said, “I learnt that several employees in the transport body go on long leave without intimation. These included contract workers as well as permanent employees.”
He added, “Public notice through the newspaper had been issued to 25 permanent employees. Thirteen did not respond to departmental inquiry and hence they have been sacked.”
