Ganesh Visarjan pond at Roadpali, that is in a pathetic condition, will soon be repaired and beautified.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has decided to take up the project to restore the glory of the pond that is located in a remote area.

CIDCO said that the cost of the project will be Rs2.67 crore. Tender process for allotment of contract is in final stages, with work expected to begin soon.

The pond is located on the road that connects Roadpali to Sion-Panvel highway.

The pond has been in existence before CIDCO acquired land in the region. A large number of Ganpati idols are immersed in the pond every year.

The pond was neglected after CIDCO developed Kalamboli. Thereafter, CIDCO undertook development in Roadpali as well, but the pond was not cleared. Since there is no recreational place or centre in the area, the residents have long been demanding that the pond be beautified.

A proposal for beautifying the pond was prepared by CIDCO superintending engineer Kiran Phanse who then sent it to the head office. Phanse said, “The tenders for the project have been called. The bids will be opened in mid-July following which contract will be awarded. Work will begin after that. We expect work to begin in two months.”

On the work that will be undertaken, he said, “We will construct a pathway along the pond. Railings will be erected for security purpose. Landscaping will be undertaken in the open area and a lawn will be developed. There will also be seating arrangements.”
