Taloja jail inmates plant 500 saplings, NMMC 20,000

The inmates of Taloja jail planted over 500 saplings in and round the jail on Friday.
Several distinguished people including Vijay Singh, principal secretary of home department (prison), MLA of Anushaktinagar, Tukaram Kate also participated in the drive.
The jail authorities had received around 1,625 saplings from the forest department and NGOs. However, for administrative issues, they managed to plant around 500 of them. They have decided to plant the rest of the sapling in the next few days.
“Only our senior most and trusted inmates were allowed to take part in this drive. They did the job with great enthusiasm. We will also take care of these trees at least for next three years,” said one senior official from the jail.
This apart every police station in Navi Mumbai also planted saplings in their jurisdiction. Vashi police along with NMMC and some NGOs planted over 750 saplings at sector 12. Similar drive was conducted at the police commissioner’s office at CBD Belapur.
The railways officials also conducted similar drives near Deputy mayor Avinash Lad plants a sapling at Mini Seashore in Vashi on Friday.

The members of Assam Association in collaboration with Cidco planted around 2,000 saplings at Kharghar hills. Binod Mudiar, president of the association, said, “Nearly 50 families living at Kharghar, Panvel and Belapur came out and participated in the drive.”
“People deployed by the Cidco
helped us dig holes and our people planted the saplings there. It will be great if Cidco and other government agencies give us chance to conduct such drives in future,” he added.
Navi Mumbai responded overwhelmingly to the call by the state forest ministry to plant 2 crore trees in the state on July 1.
Special tree plantation programmes were organised by NMMC, CIDCO and Raigad administration, apart from the police with the active help of the residents.NMMC planted over 20,000 plants in Navi Mumbai on Friday.
