Students of Mar Thoma Vidyapeeth, Titwala, participate in the tree plantation drive on Friday.
Around 34 residents from Thane and Navi Mumbai lost money from their bank accounts without doing any transaction. They realized the fraud after they got messages about the transaction. They collectively lost Rs13.79 lakh.
They lodged a complaint with the Kalwa police station on Friday. The complainants had withdrawn cash from an ATM of a private bank at Kalwa between June 26 to June 30.
A police inspector from Kalwa police station said, “All complainants got a message on July 1 that certain amount has been deducted from their accounts. Transactions were done from places such as Nariman Point, Kalwa, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Dombivli and Vashi. The complainants used their card at the same ATM at Kalwa.”
A police officer from the cyber cell said that it was a case of card cloning as they found skimmers which copy details of debit card.
A case was lodged under sections 379 of the IPC Code and IT Act of 66(c) and (d).
