Mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Tukaram Mundhe has taken steps to pro­vide ef­fi­cient med­i­cal ser­vices to cit­i­zens.

The mea­sures in­clude pro­vid­ing ad­di­tional staff for di­rect home ser­vices of pro­vid­ing vac­ci­na­tions, fam­ily plan­ning aware­ness, com­bat­ing tu­ber­cu­loses etc. He has or­dered the ap­point­ment of 161 link work­ers on con­tract ba­sis in the health depart­ment. A to­tal of 26 staff nurses have also been ap­pointed on scale based con­tract sys­tem.

Twenty-one doc­tors spe­cial­is­ing in var­i­ous fields have been ap­pointed on con­tract ba­sis to pro­vide qual­ity med­i­cal ser­vices and en­sure that the pa­tients are not de­nied any treat­ment. These in­clude gy­nae­col­o­gist, or­thopaedics, den­tists, pae­di­a­tri­cian etc.

The health depart­ment has can­celled the ap­point­ment of some doc­tors for posts that had been made by the gen­eral body. The sanc­tions had not yet come from the gov­ern­ment.

Mundhe said, “The ap­point­ments on con­tract ba­sis have been done to pro­vide peo­ple-friendly health ser­vices. The changes have been made to en­sure that no rules are vi­o­lated.”
