Turbhe residents and project-affected people leaders took out a rally to Turbhe ward office on Thursday to protest against the notices being issued and action being taken against PAP structures by NMMC.

The protesters have warned of violence if the action is not stopped.

Local corporators, PAP leaders and a large number of Turbhe villagers including women participated in the protest march to the ward office. The protest was organised in the wake of recent action in the area by NMMC on the instructions of municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.

Mundhe had told a Shiv Sena delegation on Wednesday that he will not act against existing structures. He had, however, said that action will be taken against under-construction buildings which do not have developmental permission.

BJP city president and group leader in NMMC, Ramchandra Gharat said, “Ninety per cent of the need-based constructions by PAP have been completed. The remaining 10% are under construction. All we are asking is that they be allowed to be constructed. It is fine if new constructions are not allowed.”

He said, “The PAP have made huge sacrifices for the development Project-affected people gather outside the ward office at Turbhe on Thursday.

of the city but have been ill-treated by Cidco. Now we are being denied even basic shelter.”

Corporator Chandrakant Patil said, “When the matter is being discussed in the assembly and the chief minister himself has given the green signal for regularisation of PAP homes, how can NMMC and the commissioner act against them?”

He added, “The agitation will be intensified if action is

not stopped.”

A delegation submitted a memorandum to Turbhe ward officer Bharat Dhonde.

Corporator Somnath Vaskar said, “The issue is not related just to Turbhe. The under-construction buildings were not given permission by NMMC despite repeated pleas. What is then the fault of the PAP? Let these permissions be given instead of notices being slapped.”
