At a press conference on Thursday, Mhatre listed a host of Navi Mumbai related issues that she plans to take up and follow up during the session.

“The residents have long been burdened with the toll charges. It is high time they are exempted from it,” she said. I will raise the issue in the house and draw the government’s attention to it.”

The MLA said, “If the demand is not met, the people of Navi Mumbai will take to the streets.”

On the other issues she said, “I will take up the issues of regularisation of need-based homes constructed by project-affected people, freehold land demand for the city, slum rehabilitation, cluster development, speeding up of no-objection certificates for redevelopment of dilapidated buildings, protection for Digha buildings and rehabilitation of its residents.”

Two people, including a woman, have been booked for kidnap and rape of a 14-year-old girl at Kalwa. The accused knew the girl’s family.

The two, Tarabula Nisa Khan alias Muniya and her brother Mushtakin Khan alias Jadya both in their 30s, are yet to be arrested.

On Wednesday, the girl’s mother lodged a complaint against the duo. She said Jadya had raped her daughter in June and his sister helped him. The girl went missing on June 27. After the mother suspected that the brother-sister duo to be behind her daughter’s disappearance, she lodged a kidnap case against them.

On July 9, the girl’s mother got a call from Muniya, saying that her daughter was with them and that she should withdraw the complaint. But, the family did not find the girl. On Monday, the minor’s family saw Jadya roaming in their area and lodged a rape complaint against him.
