Ab­sent docs at Airoli hos­pi­tal will not get one day’s salary

A sur­prise visit by mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Tukaram Mundhe on Fri­day to the mother and child hos­pi­tal in Airoli has cost two se­nior doc­tors, who were not present, a day’s salary. They have also been asked to sub­mit an ex­pla­na­tion for be­ing ab­sent.

The doc­tors, med­i­cal of­fi­cer Dr San­deep Vhatkar and med­i­cal of­fi­cer (tu­ber­cu­lo­sis) Dr Van­dana Surve were not present in the hos­pi­tal, de­spite pa­tients be­ing present in the out pa­tient depart­ment.

Af­ter tak­ing charge, Mundhe has stressed on dis­ci­pline in ad­min­is­tra­tive work. It was in this con­text that he paid a sur­prise visit to the hos­pi­tal to check its func­tion­ing. In the past he has made such vis­its to ward of­fices.

Ad­di­tional mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Ankush Cha­van, “The com­mis­sioner’s aim is to en­sure that qual­ity ser­vices are ren­dered by the hospitals as many com­mon cit­i­zens take ad­van­tage of the health ser­vices pro­vided by NMMC. Hence he paid the sur­prise visit to the hos­pi­tal to take com­plete stock of its func­tion­ing.”

He said, “He in­spected the en­tire process from reg­is­tra­tion of the pa­tients to their check up and the treat­ment and medicines pre­scribed. He pointed out la­cu­nas in the pro­ce­dures and or­dered im­me­di­ate rec­ti­fi­ca­tions.”

Cha­van said, “He also or­dered ac­tion against per­son­nel who were ir­reg­u­lar in their work. He took a se­ri­ous view of the two doc­tors who were not present on duty and in­structed that a day’s salary be de­ducted.”

Con­cluded Cha­van, “The com­mis­sioner wants to en­sure that the daily func­tion­ing of all de­part­ments of the civic body be as per the norms and en­sure that the res­i­dents do not suf­fer in any way.”
