Absent docs at Airoli hospital will not get one day’s salary
A surprise visit by municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe on Friday to the mother and child hospital in Airoli has cost two senior doctors, who were not present, a day’s salary. They have also been asked to submit an explanation for being absent.
The doctors, medical officer Dr Sandeep Vhatkar and medical officer (tuberculosis) Dr Vandana Surve were not present in the hospital, despite patients being present in the out patient department.
After taking charge, Mundhe has stressed on discipline in administrative work. It was in this context that he paid a surprise visit to the hospital to check its functioning. In the past he has made such visits to ward offices.
Additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan, “The commissioner’s aim is to ensure that quality services are rendered by the hospitals as many common citizens take advantage of the health services provided by NMMC. Hence he paid the surprise visit to the hospital to take complete stock of its functioning.”
He said, “He inspected the entire process from registration of the patients to their check up and the treatment and medicines prescribed. He pointed out lacunas in the procedures and ordered immediate rectifications.”
Chavan said, “He also ordered action against personnel who were irregular in their work. He took a serious view of the two doctors who were not present on duty and instructed that a day’s salary be deducted.”
Concluded Chavan, “The commissioner wants to ensure that the daily functioning of all departments of the civic body be as per the norms and ensure that the residents do not suffer in any way.”
