Cidco ex­ec­u­tive en­gi­neer held for tak­ing Rs15K bribe

The anti cor­rup­tion bureau of Navi Mum­bai unit ar­rested an ex­ec­u­tive en­gi­neer of Cidco for al­legedly tak­ing Rs15,000 bribe on Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the ACB of­fi­cials, Arun Aahir, 56, had de­manded the cash from a civil con­trac­tor for sanc­tion­ing his bill. He was ar­rested red-handed while tak­ing the money at the Cidco no­dal of­fice in Kharghar’s Sec­tor 4.

“The con­trac­tor had taken the con­tract of clean­ing drains and paint­ing di­viders at the node. Af­ter fin­ish­ing his work, he sub­mit­ted a bill of Rs1.50 lakh at the Cidco of­fice. The ac­cused asked for the bribe to sanc­tion that bill,” said Vishal Jad­hav, ACB in­spec­tor.

“Af­ter the com­plainant ap­proached us, we asked him to go head ac­cord­ing to our plans. He went the ac­cused’s of­fice with money given by us and we man­aged to ar­rest the ac­cused red-handed while ac­cept­ing those notes on Fri­day,” an­other of­fi­cer said.

A first in­for­ma­tion re­port (FIR) has been reg­is­tered with the Kharghar po­lice sta­tion against the ac­cused.

He has been booked un­der rel­e­vant sec­tions of Pre­ven­tion of Cor­rup­tion Act, 1988. He will be pro­duced be­fore the ju­ridi­cal court on Saturday.
