Teen spurned by girl jumps off mall at Vashi, critical
Disappointed at being spurned by a girl he was in love with, a 19-year-old youth jumped off the second floor of a mall in Vashi.
He sustained serious head injuries and is reported to be critical.
The incident occurred around 10am at Raghuleela mall at Sector 30A, near Vashi railway station. The mall had just opened for business.
Vashi police inspector Suraj Padvi said, “As per the initial information that we have, the youth, Mohammed Gulam, a resident of Govandi, had come to Raghuleela mall on Eid. He met a girl there who was distributing free coupons to visitors.”
He added, “He learnt that the girl too lives in Govandi and soon their friendship developed and they met a few times. Gulam then proposed to the girl who told him that she did not love him. She then started avoiding meeting him thereafter.”
Padvi said, “On Thursday morning, he came to meet her at the mall but she refused to talk to him. Gulam then threw a letter at her and rushed to the second floor of the mall within the atrium. Before anyone realised what he was up to, he jumped from the railing area inside the atrium, landing on the ground floor.”
The boy was rushed to the NMMC hospital in Vashi. However, since his condition was very serious, he was shifted to Sion hospital in Mumbai for further treatment.
Padvi said, “We are investigating the case to get the complete details. We will get more details from the letter and will also go through the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the mall.”
