Police constable dies in road accident, one held
A police constable attached with Taloja police station died after the bike he was riding was hit by a four-wheeler at Kharghar on Friday.
According to the police, Kunal Sonawne, 31, lived at the police colony in CBD Belapur.
Around 6.45pm, he was travelling from sector 23 to sector 12 in Kharghar for some work.
“As he was crossing the Bank of India Chowk at sector 7, a four-wheeler which was going towards Utsav Chowk from the Sion-Panvel highway, hit his bike,” said Swapnil Waghmare, police sub-inspector from Kharghar police station.
Sonawne fell down in the accident and he suffered severe injuries at various parts of his body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by some local people, but the doctors declared him dead there.
There were two people in the four-wheeler when the accident took place.
The man who was at wheel has been identified as H Yadav, The motorcycle which the constable Kunal Sonawne (inset) was riding.

“Yadav had jumped the signal before hitting the victim’s bike. We have arrested him from the spot,” he said.
The police have booked the accused under sections 279 and 304a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The police sent the deceased’s body to Panvel rural hospital for conducting postmortem and then delivered it to his family. The postmortem reports are yet to come.
“The accused was not drunk when the accident took place. It is a case of rash driving,” Waghmare said.
