Centre pushes KDMC for clean-up
Fed up of numerous complaints to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) officials about the filth in her area, Sushma Rahate, 38, shot a complaint on Swachh Bharat mission portal.
The result: The area around Sudarshan Nagar at Dombivli MIDC was cleaned in no time.
Last year, Rahate wrote a complaint to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the portal about the heaps of garbage and that the civic body does not clean the area regularly.
The KDMC officials received directions from the Prime Minister’s Office to address the compliant. Sushma Rahate, 38, in front of the nullah which was cleaned recently.
“A compliant that was not addressed for several years got done after one complaint to the
portal,” said Rahate, a resident of Palm View Society.
Fed up of the neglect and apathy of KDMC officials, Rahate complained online after learning about the central government’s website. “Soon after I posted a complaint, I received a reply saying that it would be looked at,” added Rahate.
For the past 30 years, the residents of Dombivli MIDC, Sudarshan Nagar, have been complaining about the piling of garbage around the area as the authorities had failed to pick it up. But, no action was being taken.
An official from KDMC, solid waste management department, requesting anonymity, said: “Soon after we received directions from the Prime Minister’s Office, we started cleaning the area. The nullah is open and will be closed soon.”
