Cen­tre pushes KDMC for clean-up

Fed up of nu­mer­ous com­plaints to Kalyan-Dom­bivli Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (KDMC) of­fi­cials about the filth in her area, Sushma Ra­hate, 38, shot a com­plaint on Swachh Bharat mis­sion por­tal.

The re­sult: The area around Su­dar­shan Na­gar at Dom­bivli MIDC was cleaned in no time.

Last year, Ra­hate wrote a com­plaint to the Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi through the por­tal about the heaps of garbage and that the civic body does not clean the area reg­u­larly.

The KDMC of­fi­cials re­ceived di­rec­tions from the Prime Min­is­ter’s Of­fice to ad­dress the com­pli­ant. Sushma Ra­hate, 38, in front of the nul­lah which was cleaned re­cently.

“A com­pli­ant that was not ad­dressed for sev­eral years got done af­ter one com­plaint to the

por­tal,” said Ra­hate, a res­i­dent of Palm View So­ci­ety.

Fed up of the neglect and ap­a­thy of KDMC of­fi­cials, Ra­hate com­plained on­line af­ter learn­ing about the cen­tral gov­ern­ment’s web­site. “Soon af­ter I posted a com­plaint, I re­ceived a re­ply say­ing that it would be looked at,” added Ra­hate.

For the past 30 years, the res­i­dents of Dom­bivli MIDC, Su­dar­shan Na­gar, have been com­plain­ing about the pil­ing of garbage around the area as the au­thor­i­ties had failed to pick it up. But, no ac­tion was be­ing taken.

An of­fi­cial from KDMC, solid waste man­age­ment depart­ment, re­quest­ing anonymity, said: “Soon af­ter we re­ceived di­rec­tions from the Prime Min­is­ter’s Of­fice, we started clean­ing the area. The nul­lah is open and will be closed soon.”
