The anti-encroachment department of NMMC demolished illegal extensions and structures at Satra Plaza on Palm Beach Road at Sector 19D in Turbhe on Thursday.

The popular building houses some of the biggest commercial names in business.

The civic officials took action against 4 shops and offices in the building which were alleged to have resorted to illegal constructions and encroachments.

Additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan said action was taken against In House Studio, Vijay Sales and Draper, the furnishing store. “The illegal mezzanine floors, toilets and kitchen were demolished in the drive,” said Chavan.

“Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has issued strict orders that the city should be free of roads, footpaths and marginal space encroachments to enable the residents to move freely. It is in this context that the antiencroachment department and the eight ward offices have been taking action.”

He added, “The action at Satra Plaza was in this context. The illegal constructions in the building had been issued notices by the ward office in the year 2013. We have now given them 48-hour notice.”

Chavan said, “Today, we took action against shop owners who had not responded to the notices issued.”

The NMMC has warned all large commercial complexes to ensure designated parking places are allowed for vehicles.

Additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan said, “Several commercial complexes do not allow residents or its occupants to park their vehicles in the designated parking areas. This has resulted in major parking issues around such complexes.”

He added, “The movement of residents is affect and traffic snarls are a regular feature in the area.”

Chavan, “The NMMC instructs all such commercial complexes to make available designated parking places in their premises. Those who do not follow the order and violate norms will face stern action by the civic body.”
