Two constables arrested for taking bribe
Two police constables posted at Thane commissionerate (Bhiwandi control room) were arrested on Wednesday for accepting Rs5,000 bribe.
They took money from a sand supplier on Tuesday, saying they would refrain from investigating and interfering in the case of sand mafia.
The 35-year-old sand supplier from Bhiwandi complained to ACB officers after he was asked for bribe. On Tuesday, the two constables were arrested from Bhiwandi while they were accepting Rs5,000.
According to the complainant, the two constables on many occasions in the past had intercepted his trucks supplying sand and use to threaten drivers asking to shell out money or else they will take action against him on charges of illegally transporting sand.
A police inspector from ACB, Thane, said, “We arrested them from Bhiwandi area. The accused constables will be produced in court tomorrow. We have registered a case too in the Bhiwandi police station under relevant sections. We also came to know that the constables had asked for Rs10,000. After negotiation, they settled at Rs5,000.”
