Mum­bra busi­ness­man kid­napped by friend in Patna, three ar­rested

A busi­ness­man from Mum­bra, who was kid­napped by his friend, was res­cued from Patna on Tues­day.

A day later, his friend and his two ac­com­plices were ar­rested by the Thane crime branch.

The three ac­cused Noor Alam, 30, Sai­ful­lah Khan, 45, and Ir­fan Khan, 22, all res­i­dents of Bi­har.

Khalid Noorul­hu­dah Kha­tri, 49, a res­i­dent of Simla Park in Mum­bra, Thane was kid­napped in July and con­fined near Nepal bor­der. Kha­tri deals in buy­ing and sell­ing prop­erty.

Alam knew Kha­tri for the past three years. Khtari said, “Noor knew about my prop­erty in Ut­tar Pradesh. Noor told me over phone that he has a good buyer of the land but he wanted 2% of the to­tal amount. The deal was fi­nalised and on July 30 I went to Patna.”

The ac­cused spiked his drink and they took him to a place and con­fined him in a room.

“I could see two co­conut trees and a mosque through a hole in the room. I could also hear Azaan,” Kha­tri said.

Kha­tri was told to call his wife Shaba Kha­tri, 40, and tell her that he has been kid­napped. The kid­napers de­manded Rs1crore but af­ter ne­go­ti­a­tion it was set­tled at Rs30 lakh.

The ac­cused told Shaba to drop the money bag near a mall at Rax­aul in Ut­tar Pradesh and af­ter which they will re­lease her hus­band. Shaba alerted the Thane po­lice who formed a team and went to Bi­har. She gave the money but they took the bag at night and es­caped. The ac­cused re­leased Kha­tri, threat­en­ing him not to tell the in­ci­dent to any­one.

A po­lice in­spec­tor from Thane crime branch said, “Kha­tri gave us the de­tails of the place where he was held cap­tive. We went to the spot and ar­rested all the three ac­cused.”

Joint com­mis­sioner of po­lice, Thane, Ashutosh Dum­bare said: “Kha­tri and Noor are friends for the past three years. As Noor knew about Kha­tri’s prop­erty, he formed a gang with his friends from Bi­har. Af­ter Kha­tri’s drink was spiked he was given in­jec­tion which un­con­scious. We re­cov­ered Rs29.89 lakh. The vic­tim was con­fined in a Maoist area in Ut­tar Pradesh and we sus­pect their links too. We are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.”

A po­lice of­fi­cer said, “Rs11,000 was used by the main ac­cused for his rel­a­tive’s fu­neral. We have seized a mo­bile phone. The main ac­cused is Noor. His two friends Sai­ful­lah and Ir­fan are from Bi­har and do odd jobs. All three ac­cused were brought to Thane on Wed­nes­day night.”
