Mumbra businessman kidnapped by friend in Patna, three arrested
A businessman from Mumbra, who was kidnapped by his friend, was rescued from Patna on Tuesday.
A day later, his friend and his two accomplices were arrested by the Thane crime branch.
The three accused Noor Alam, 30, Saifullah Khan, 45, and Irfan Khan, 22, all residents of Bihar.
Khalid Noorulhudah Khatri, 49, a resident of Simla Park in Mumbra, Thane was kidnapped in July and confined near Nepal border. Khatri deals in buying and selling property.
Alam knew Khatri for the past three years. Khtari said, “Noor knew about my property in Uttar Pradesh. Noor told me over phone that he has a good buyer of the land but he wanted 2% of the total amount. The deal was finalised and on July 30 I went to Patna.”
The accused spiked his drink and they took him to a place and confined him in a room.
“I could see two coconut trees and a mosque through a hole in the room. I could also hear Azaan,” Khatri said.
Khatri was told to call his wife Shaba Khatri, 40, and tell her that he has been kidnapped. The kidnapers demanded Rs1crore but after negotiation it was settled at Rs30 lakh.
The accused told Shaba to drop the money bag near a mall at Raxaul in Uttar Pradesh and after which they will release her husband. Shaba alerted the Thane police who formed a team and went to Bihar. She gave the money but they took the bag at night and escaped. The accused released Khatri, threatening him not to tell the incident to anyone.
A police inspector from Thane crime branch said, “Khatri gave us the details of the place where he was held captive. We went to the spot and arrested all the three accused.”
Joint commissioner of police, Thane, Ashutosh Dumbare said: “Khatri and Noor are friends for the past three years. As Noor knew about Khatri’s property, he formed a gang with his friends from Bihar. After Khatri’s drink was spiked he was given injection which unconscious. We recovered Rs29.89 lakh. The victim was confined in a Maoist area in Uttar Pradesh and we suspect their links too. We are investigating.”
A police officer said, “Rs11,000 was used by the main accused for his relative’s funeral. We have seized a mobile phone. The main accused is Noor. His two friends Saifullah and Irfan are from Bihar and do odd jobs. All three accused were brought to Thane on Wednesday night.”
