Airoli will get Morbe dam water supply soon: Mundhe

Airoli, which gets water supply from MIDC, will soon get water from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Morbe dam to tide over its problems.

Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe met residents of Airoli on Saturday and assured them of improved water supply.

Like every Saturday morning, Mundhe set out to interact with residents and address their problems. Chincholi garden at sector 5 saw more joggers and morning walkers than usual. Most wanted to meet Mundhe and tell him about the problems the node has been facing.

Later, Mundhe said, “The primary issues at Airoli are water, cleanliness and hawkers.”

He said, “The residents complained that there is no adequate water pressure on second, third and fourth floor of buildings. We will look into it. The primary reason seems to be lack of elevated storage reservoir (ESR). We are constructing an ESR in the area and the problem should be resolved in two months. ”

He said, “In some areas, though water is being supplied as per the norm of 135 litre per person, there are distribution and storage problems. We will work on the distribution issue. The residents will have to look into the water management issue and ensure optimum use.”

The basic problem in Airoli, according to Mundhe, is that water is supplied by MIDC through Barve dam. “We have taken a policy decision to bring Morbe dam water pipeline here to supply water to the node.”

He said, “The Barve dam water through MIDC will then be used only during emergencies. It will help resolve the water supply problem in Airoli.”

The commissioner said the NMMC will look into the cleanliness issue. He assured residents that the complaints against hawkers menace will be verified and action taken. Mundhe said the complaints of missing links of paver blocks will be resolved in 15 days.

Denying that the administration had failed which has resulted in a spate of complaints, Mundhe said, “The issue is that earlier everything happened from the head office. Now, we have decentralised the decisionmaking at the ward level.”

He said, “There are zonal officers at the wards who have now been given authority to take immediate action to ensure the residents’ issues are resolved.”

He said that the pace of the work has been slow and they are determined to speed up the process.
