Rob­bers take away jew­ellery worth `7L

A 40-year-old woman from Kalyan was robbed of Rs30,000 in a mall in Kalyan on Mon­day.

The po­lice are go­ing through the CCTV footage to trace the ac­cused and are also tak­ing de­tails of his­tory-sheeters.

“The mall in Ne­tavli at Kol­she­wadi was crowded as it was In­de­pen­dence day. The woman was car­ry­ing Rs30,000 cash. Af­ter some time, she re­alised that her purse which con­tained Rs30,000 was not in her plas­tic bag,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Kol­she­wadi po­lice sta­tion.

She told the po­lice that a man had been fol­low­ing her in the mall and sus­pected he might have robbed her purse. “We have asked the mall to give us the CCTV footage,” said the po­lice of­fi­cer.

A fam­ily from Nau­pada re­turned af­ter a long week­end and found that their house was robbed of valu­ables worth Rs7 lakh. The fam­ily went out of town on Au­gust 13 and re­turned on Au­gust 15.

G Kab­d­ule, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor from Nau­pada po­lice sta­tion, said, “They re­turned on Tues­day to see that the grille in the bath­room was bro­ken and cup­board was open. Jew­ellery worth Rs7.27 lakh in­clud­ing cash was miss­ing.”

Vishesh Kavdi, 30, whose house was robbed, works in Mumbai with a pri­vate firm.

“The ac­cused en­tered the house af­ter break­ing the bath­room grille on the first floor. We checked the CCTV footage, in which, the ac­cused is seen en­ter­ing and leav­ing the build­ing. We have lodged a case,” said Kavdi.

Kab­d­ule said, “Af­ter go­ing through the CCTV footage, we de­tained two sus­pects and took their fin­ger­prints. The neigh­bours did not hear any noise.”

The po­lice will also go through the list of his­tory-sheeters to trace the ac­cused.

“One should in­form the neigh­bours and the watch­man be­fore go­ing out of town. Res­i­dents should also check if all win­dows and door are locked prop­erly,” added Kab­d­ule.
