Ahana Sharma was just a month old when she was attacked by a rat that chewed up her nose. Now six, Ahana is used to her friends at school making fun of her.

But this won’t last long, as Thane civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal, who met her at an event in her school, has said he will pay for Ahana’s plastic surgery.

Jaiswal met Ahana at a civic school in Manpada and asked her about her nose.

“She told him it was chewed up by a rat when she was just a month old and the family was asleep. He contacted her parents, who said they could not afford the plastic surgery. Touched by the little girl’s condition, Jaiswal told them to go ahead with the surgery and that he will pay for all expenses from his pocket,” said Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer.

Ahana’s mother works as a domestic help, while her father is a labourer. Jaiswal’s decision came as a blessing to Ahana’s parents.

“Ahana was only a month old, when she was bitten by a rat. She had a twin sister who died during the same time. So we wanted to do everything in our capacity to save her. The doctor treated her wound which healed, but plastic surgery was supposed to be done when she grew up,” said her father Shailendra Sharma.
