Truck hits bike, crushes 2 youth in Thane; driver yet to be ar­rested

Two men died af­ter the bike that they were rid­ing was hit by a truck from be­hind on Thurs­day morn­ing at Kalwa in Thane.

Ac­cord­ing to sources from the po­lice, the youth died on the spot.

The de­ceased have been iden­ti­fied as 34-year-old Firoz Shaikh, who was rid­ing the bike, and 25-year-old Mud­dasir Shaikh, who was rid­ing pil­lion. Both worked in IT Asher Park in Thane.

The in­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer Ir­shad Sayyed from Kalwa from Kalwa po­lice sta­tion said, “Firoz used to live in By­culla while Mud­dasir was a Mum­bra resident. The duo was re­turn­ing af­ter their night duty around 5 am. Firoz was on his way to drop Mud­dasir be­fore head­ing home.”

He said, “The ac­ci­dent oc­curred as they were about to cross Khare­gaon Road to­wards Mum­bra ahead of Khare­gaon toll naka in Kalwa at Thane. It was around 5.30am when their bike was hit by a truck from be­hind. The truck driver is ab­scond­ing.”

The in­ci­dent hap­pened in front of a su­per­vi­sor of the firm that the de­ceased used to work with. He was al­legedly just 200 me­tres away when the truck hit the bike.

Af­ter the in­ci­dent, even though the faces of the de­ceased were un­rec­og­niz­able, he man­aged to iden­tify them with the help of their ID cards and called the po­lice. The bod­ies were taken to a civil hospi­tal where the youth were de­clared dead and were sent for post-mortem.

“We have lodged a case against the un­known truck driver. We will take the su­per­vi­sor’s state­ment and in­ves­ti­gate the case,” said Sayyed.
