Truck hits bike, crushes 2 youth in Thane; driver yet to be arrested
Two men died after the bike that they were riding was hit by a truck from behind on Thursday morning at Kalwa in Thane.
According to sources from the police, the youth died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Firoz Shaikh, who was riding the bike, and 25-year-old Muddasir Shaikh, who was riding pillion. Both worked in IT Asher Park in Thane.
The investigating officer Irshad Sayyed from Kalwa from Kalwa police station said, “Firoz used to live in Byculla while Muddasir was a Mumbra resident. The duo was returning after their night duty around 5 am. Firoz was on his way to drop Muddasir before heading home.”
He said, “The accident occurred as they were about to cross Kharegaon Road towards Mumbra ahead of Kharegaon toll naka in Kalwa at Thane. It was around 5.30am when their bike was hit by a truck from behind. The truck driver is absconding.”
The incident happened in front of a supervisor of the firm that the deceased used to work with. He was allegedly just 200 metres away when the truck hit the bike.
After the incident, even though the faces of the deceased were unrecognizable, he managed to identify them with the help of their ID cards and called the police. The bodies were taken to a civil hospital where the youth were declared dead and were sent for post-mortem.
“We have lodged a case against the unknown truck driver. We will take the supervisor’s statement and investigate the case,” said Sayyed.
