Rasilaben Kataria, a resident of Bhavnagar in Gujarat, underwent a kidney transplant at LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, in April.

While the documents with the hospital show her sister, Harshaben Kevadia, as the donor, the actual donor, according to the directorate of health services (DHS), is the wife of Yusuf Shah Diwan, one of the accused in the kidney transplant case involving Brijkishore Jaiswal, which unearthed the kidney racket in the hospital.

According to the documents submitted to the DHS, accessed by HT, have revealed that Kevadia had given a blood sample and signed on the donor’s form, but the photograph pasted on the transplant documents was that of an unidentified woman who was presented as Kataria’s biological sister.

“I did not donate my kidney to my sister. I gave my blood samples at a Charni Road-based hospital for her transplant surgery,” Kevadia told HT.

The DHS are investigating four transplant cases, including Kataria’s.
