A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly extorting Rs5 lakh from a builder. He was nabbed in Mulund on Saturday and has been remanded in police custody for five days.

Both the builder and the accused are from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. In June, the accused Dablu Yadav had made several calls to builder in Gorakhpur. The builder, Anandkumar Singh, who is in his 30s, told the police that Yadav had threatened to shoot him if he did not pay the money by June 18.

A police officer from Thane crime branch unit 1 said, “Singh lodged a complaint with the police station at Gorakhpur. He did not pay heed to Yadav’s threat. In June, Yadav fired two rounds at Singh’s house. He fled to Ghatkopar and was staying with his relatives.”

The Gorakhpur Special Task Force (STF) came to know about Yadav hiding at Ghatkopar. They contacted the Thane crime branch unit 1 and Yadav was arrested from Mulund check naka.

The police officer said, “We have been looking for Yadav and we got to know from our sources that he was going to Mulund to meet someone. We arrested him near Mulund check naka. He had started to work in Mulund as a daily labourer. While investigation, we also recovered the mobile phone which he had used to call Singh.”
