NMMC goes all out to install automated water meters
The objections raised by mayor Sudhakar Sonawane and some quarters notwithstanding, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is going all out to install water metres with Automated Metre Reading (AMR) system in the city.
Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said, “NMMC general body resolution of December 2008 has made installation of such metres mandatory. The resolution of 2010 sanctioned installation of Automated Metre Reading (AMR).”
“Accordingly, using JNNURM and NMMC funds, 84,390 water connections of 15mm pipeline were fitted with water metres with AMR facility. Installation of such metres on pipelines above 15 mm is still pending,” he added.
NMMC has appealed to the residents to install the metres as per specifications given. They can purchase them from any supplier based on their convenience and are not bound to purchase from a particular manufacturer. The commercial and institutional consumers had been issued notices 2 months ago to install the metres. “We are giving them till September 15 to install the metres,” he added.
