NMMC goes all out to in­stall au­to­mated wa­ter me­ters

The ob­jec­tions raised by mayor Sud­hakar Son­awane and some quar­ters notwith­stand­ing,the Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) is go­ing all out to in­stall wa­ter me­tres with Au­to­mated Me­tre Read­ing (AMR) sys­tem in the city.

Mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Tukaram Mundhe said, “NMMC gen­eral body res­o­lu­tion of De­cem­ber 2008 has made in­stal­la­tion of such me­tres manda­tory. The res­o­lu­tion of 2010 sanc­tioned in­stal­la­tion of Au­to­mated Me­tre Read­ing (AMR).”

“Ac­cord­ingly, us­ing JNNURM and NMMC funds, 84,390 wa­ter con­nec­tions of 15mm pipe­line were fit­ted with wa­ter me­tres with AMR fa­cil­ity. In­stal­la­tion of such me­tres on pipe­lines above 15 mm is still pend­ing,” he added.

NMMC has ap­pealed to the res­i­dents to in­stall the me­tres as per spec­i­fi­ca­tions given. They can pur­chase them from any sup­plier based on their convenience and are not bound to pur­chase from a par­tic­u­lar man­u­fac­turer. The com­mer­cial and in­sti­tu­tional con­sumers had been is­sued no­tices 2 months ago to in­stall the me­tres. “We are giv­ing them till Septem­ber 15 to in­stall the me­tres,” he added.
