The vehicles that are to be used for immersion of Ganpati idols will be checked by the city RTO (Regional Transport Office) to ensure they are fit for the purpose. Only vehicles that conform to the norms will be issued fitness certificates.

The mandals have been asked to get their vehicles checked in time before the immersion day.

From the 5th day of the festival, a large number of big idols from mandals will be immersed, for which heavy vehicles are used.

“Mandals make use of trucks, tempos and trailers for transporting the idol and the volunteers. However, there is a possibility of a serious accident if the vehicle is not fit,” said a Vashi RTO official.

“Hence we have decided to check all such vehicles for their fitness,” he added.
