Man held for sexually assaulting minor
A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The police said the 14-yearold girl lives with her mother, who is a divorcee. “Her mother had to go to their native place in south India for some work, leaving the girl alone at home. She told her neighbours to take care of the girl,” said Shrikant Shinde, police inspector from Kharghar police station.
On Tuesday, the accused, Pankaj Naik, came to their house and started talking to the girl. “He bolted the door and sexually assaulted her. He also tried to rape her. When the girl raised an alarm, he ran away,” he said.
The mother came back to the city and registered a first information report following which the police arrested the accused.
The police have booked the accused under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
