Piped domestic gas for Uran residents soon
The demand of residents of Uran for piped domestic gas is all set to be fulfilled soon. The Uran Municipal Council (UMC) has earlier this week approved allotment of 225 sqm of land for the setting up of a gas centre.
For long there had been no availability of land to set up a centre for GAIL and Mahanagar to supply domestic gas. The decision by UMC has now set the motion in process.
UMC president Mahesh Baldi said, “We are hopeful that the piped gas supply will begin in the next 2-3 months.”
The ONGC oil refinery project that supplied domestic gas along with various petro products in the country is located next to Uran. Despite this, barring the ONGC colony, the residents of the area have not been getting gas through the pipelines.
GAIL India Ltd. at present has the right to distribute ONGC gas. Hence UMC had asked GAIL to supply piped gas to Uran, Baldi, then followed up on the issue with central petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Baldi said, “Mahanagar Gas has a JV with GAIL to implement the piped gas project. Mahanagar had asked for the land from UMC for the purpose. Hencem a 225 sqm land in Mhatavli revenue department survey number 75 is being given for the gas centre.”
He added, “For supply domestic gas to Uran residents through pipeline, 3,886 m long pipeline will be laid.”
