Two snatch `1 lakh jewellery from devotee MAN DIES WHILE PLAYING DHOL
The Khandeshwar police have registered a case after two unidentified persons snatched a mangalsutra worth Rs1.10 lakh from one woman on Wednesday. According to the police, Savita Dhondkar, 45, a resident of New Panvel was going to perform bhajan at a Ganpati mandal around 1.50 pm. Two unidentified persons came on a bike and stopped near her.
“As the woman did not know those two persons she avoided them and started walking on the road. The person who was riding pillion then snatched the A Ganpati idol being taken for immersion at Vashi on Thursday. mangalsutra from her neck and then both of them sped away on the bike,” said one police officer from Khandeshwar police station.
The women started shouting for help, but there was no one to come forward then. She later went to the police station and registered an FIR. “We have booked the unidentified accused under sections 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We hope to arrest them soon,” the police officer said.
The police sources reveal that chain snatching cases have decreased in the city almost by 50% this year. The police registered 48 such cases so far this year against 90 cases registered in the corresponding time last year.
