Of­fi­cials meet over 5K fam­i­lies in three weeks

The Pan­vel govern­ment em­ploy­ees have met over 5,000 fam­i­lies in the past over three weeks, ap­peal­ing them to con­struct toi­lets in their houses.

This is part of Swachch Bharat Mis­sion.

The state govern­ment water sup­ply and san­i­ta­tion depart­ment has a tar­get of meet­ing 15,000 fam­i­lies in the state, who do not have toi­lets in their homes. The fam­i­lies will be given in­for­ma­tion about the sig­nif­i­cance of toi­lets to help main­tain hy­giene.

Pan­vel pan­chayat samiti, too, has taken up the drive. It was in­au­gu­rated by Raigad zilla par­ishad pres­i­dent in Au­gust. Talks have been held with over 5,000 fam­i­lies. Govern­ment of­fi­cials and of­fice bear­ers of the zilla par­ishad are meet­ing fam­i­lies that do not have toi­lets and ap­peal­ing to them to con­struct them.

Res­i­dents of sev­eral vil­lages have de­cided to en­sure that their vil­lage be­comes open defecation free. The of­fi­cials as­sured all help to them.

To en­sure that a max­i­mum num­ber of fam­i­lies are reached, gram pan­chayat, pan­chayat samiti and zilla par­ishad of­fi­cials and per­son­nel, san­i­ta­tion work­ers along with gram pan­chayat to zilla par­ishad of­fice bear­ers are work­ing for the drive.

DN Tet­gure, block devel­op­ment of­fi­cer, Pan­vel, said: “We are ap­peal­ing to the fam­i­lies to build toi­lets. We are ex­plain­ing to them that this will lead to cleaner vil­lages.”
