Officials meet over 5K families in three weeks
The Panvel government employees have met over 5,000 families in the past over three weeks, appealing them to construct toilets in their houses.
This is part of Swachch Bharat Mission.
The state government water supply and sanitation department has a target of meeting 15,000 families in the state, who do not have toilets in their homes. The families will be given information about the significance of toilets to help maintain hygiene.
Panvel panchayat samiti, too, has taken up the drive. It was inaugurated by Raigad zilla parishad president in August. Talks have been held with over 5,000 families. Government officials and office bearers of the zilla parishad are meeting families that do not have toilets and appealing to them to construct them.
Residents of several villages have decided to ensure that their village becomes open defecation free. The officials assured all help to them.
To ensure that a maximum number of families are reached, gram panchayat, panchayat samiti and zilla parishad officials and personnel, sanitation workers along with gram panchayat to zilla parishad office bearers are working for the drive.
DN Tetgure, block development officer, Panvel, said: “We are appealing to the families to build toilets. We are explaining to them that this will lead to cleaner villages.”
