Coastal road project gets heritage panel’s conditional approval
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received a crucial no-objection certificate (NoC) for its ambitious Rs12,000-crore coastal road project from the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee. The approval has been pending for almost a year.
However, the in-principal nod comes with a few riders before the committee gives its final approval. As per conditions laid down by the heritage panel, the civic body will have to reduce the landfill that was planned around the Bandra Fort so that the sanctity of the area is maintained. Also a promenade, planned to be developed around the Bandra Fort, will have to be shifted towards the erstwhile Sea Rock hotel side. The BMC will have to design the roof over the tunnel, which is proposed from the Princess Street flyover to Priyadarshini Park.
