Coastal road project gets her­itage panel’s con­di­tional ap­proval

The Bri­han­mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (BMC) re­ceived a cru­cial no-ob­jec­tion cer­tifi­cate (NoC) for its am­bi­tious Rs12,000-crore coastal road project from the Mumbai Her­itage Con­ser­va­tion Com­mit­tee. The ap­proval has been pend­ing for al­most a year.

How­ever, the in-prin­ci­pal nod comes with a few rid­ers be­fore the com­mit­tee gives its fi­nal ap­proval. As per con­di­tions laid down by the her­itage panel, the civic body will have to re­duce the land­fill that was planned around the Ban­dra Fort so that the sanc­tity of the area is main­tained. Also a prom­e­nade, planned to be de­vel­oped around the Ban­dra Fort, will have to be shifted to­wards the erst­while Sea Rock ho­tel side. The BMC will have to de­sign the roof over the tun­nel, which is pro­posed from the Princess Street fly­over to Priyadarshini Park.
