Pooja Wadhwa found an inspiring documentary about a German woman who lived for 21 years without money till her death this year. Meena Tiwari, another homemaker, has turned to mobile apps to manage her budget. And then there are others who have discovered that the best way to save money is not to spend it at all. Some now have their own ‘no spending day’, where they have cut down on shopping and curtailed spa visits.

With the government’s shock recall of high-value banknotes leaving many people with little cash in hand — and the prospect of queuing up for long hours in ATMs or banks — people are changing their way of living and thinking. For many, this could be a life-altering realisation.
