There seems to be more trouble in store of ousted revenue minister Eknath Khadse.

The state government has brought justice Dinkar Zoting committee, appointed to probe allegations of land grab by Khadse’s family, under the gamut of the Commission of Inquiry Act 1952. This means the probe committee will get powers of a civil court, can summon any person for deposition, examine him on oath and requisition any public records or copy from any court for the probe. It would also mean the probe report will be further delayed and it would have to be tabled before the legislature as mandatory under the Act.

Khadsehadresignedasrevenue minister following allegations of conflict of interest in the purchase of an industrial plot by his family at Bhosari in Pune from an individual who had disputed the state ’s notice for land acquisition for an industrial estate. Khadse told HT, “I am not aware of any such development. I think this has not happened before. A committee has never been notified under the Act when the probe is underway. I have submitted all the documents related to the deal to the committee.”

A Polish couple was allegedly robbed of their valuables and cash by two people near Haji Ali on Wednesday. According to the police, the couple said the accused brandished sharp objects at them while passers-by did not intervene. The couple were robbed of their high-end watches, gold jewellery, Rs5,000 in new notes and a camera, the police said. A case has been registered with the Tardeo police, while the couple has gone back to Poland after a complaint was filed.

The complainants were identified as Niepsuj Gorski Wojciech Lukasz, 28, who is into the real estate business in Nowy Sacz, Poland, and his wife Adrianna, 27. They had landed in Mumbai on November 16 and were staying at a south Mumbai hotel.

An officer from the Tardeo police station said, “On Saturday, the couple left their hotel at 11am and from Churchgate station they took a train to Mahalaxmi. They visited Haji Ali and on their way to Siddhivinayak Temple, the two accosted them and robbed them.”
