Fire breaks out at Jo­gesh­wari mar­ket, 25 hurt

Close to 150 shops were gut­ted in a ma­jor fire that broke out in a fur­ni­ture mar­ket at Ghas com­pound in Jo­gesh­wari (West) on Fri­day around 1pm, said fire bri­gade of­fi­cials. Au­thor­i­ties are yet to as­cer­tain the to­tal loss of prop­erty.

Twenty-five peo­ple sus­tained mi­nor in­juries in help­ing the fire bri­gade dur­ing their fire­fight­ing op­er­a­tions, said the Ma­ha­rash­tra Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices.

Lo­cal res­i­dents say at least two gas cylin­ders ex­ploded, caus­ing the fire. How­ever, au­thor­i­ties are yet to as­cer­tain the ex­act cause of the fire.

The fur­ni­ture mar­ket which holds at least 1,000 shops, is the sec­ond largest fur­ni­ture mar­ket in the city, lo­cated on SV road.

Re­lief Road con­nect­ing SV Road and Link Road was closed for traf­fic af­ter the fire broke out.

SV Road from Behram Baug junc­tion was also closed till Oshi­wara bridge for north­bound traf­fic as the fire­fight­ing op­er­a­tions was un­der­way. The blaze at a fur­ni­ture mar­ket in Jo­gesh­wari (West) gut­ted around 150 shops on Fri­day.
