Trump team counters Pak claims of ‘flowery’ phone call with Sharif

Just what did US President-elect Donald Trump and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif discuss in their telephone conversation?

While Islamabad gave an exulting account of the call, Trump’s team has issued a statement, giving a bland, workman-like version. The reason, said a Trump adviser, was the “flowery” account of Sharif ’s customary phone call to congratulate Trump on his election that was released by Pakistani authorities on Wednesday. The Pakistani readout of the conversation seemed to have committed Trump to more than he meant, sources said, prompting the rare counter. So far, the Trump team has released readouts of the calls from Chinese president Xi Jinping and Russian president Vladimir Putin, but not to counter the account of the conversation put out by their countries.
