Cor­po­ra­tor’s hus­band held for at­tack­ing her

THANE: A day af­ter Shiv Sena cor­po­ra­tor Sangeeta Patil, 46, was at­tacked in her of­fice, her hus­band was ar­rested on Fri­day for the crime.

Manik was pro­duced in court on Fri­day and he was re­manded in po­lice cus­tody till June 12.

On Thurs­day, a dozen masked men barged into her of­fice and at­tacked her and three other par­ty­men who tried to in­ter­vene. All four were hos­pi­talised with se­ri­ous in­juries. The three other who were in­jured are Ravi Waghmare, 55, Tushar Ke­sarkar, 36, and Su­nil Ban­sode, 36.

Her es­tranged hus­band Manik Patil,50, who was de­tained on Thurs­day, was ar­rested on Fri­day for plan­ning the at­tack.

The po­lice learnt that the cou­ple had prob­lems for the past one year and that they have filed for a di­vorce. The po­lice learnt that Manik had planned to mur­der his wife a week ago and that he also doubted her char­ac­ter.

A po­lice in­spec­tor from Shri­na­gar po­lice sta­tion said, “When we recorded Sangeeta’s state­ment af­ter the at­tack. She sus­pected her hus­band and soon we de­tained him. Dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tion, he con­fessed to his crime.”

The po­lice said the cou­ple was fight­ing over prop­erty is­sues. The cou­ple has been liv­ing sep­a­rately for the past one year.

“We have booked Manik un­der sec­tion 307 (at­tempt to mur­der) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and sev­eral sec­tions of ri­ot­ing act,” said the po­lice.
