Corporator’s husband held for attacking her
THANE: A day after Shiv Sena corporator Sangeeta Patil, 46, was attacked in her office, her husband was arrested on Friday for the crime.
Manik was produced in court on Friday and he was remanded in police custody till June 12.
On Thursday, a dozen masked men barged into her office and attacked her and three other partymen who tried to intervene. All four were hospitalised with serious injuries. The three other who were injured are Ravi Waghmare, 55, Tushar Kesarkar, 36, and Sunil Bansode, 36.
Her estranged husband Manik Patil,50, who was detained on Thursday, was arrested on Friday for planning the attack.
The police learnt that the couple had problems for the past one year and that they have filed for a divorce. The police learnt that Manik had planned to murder his wife a week ago and that he also doubted her character.
A police inspector from Shrinagar police station said, “When we recorded Sangeeta’s statement after the attack. She suspected her husband and soon we detained him. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime.”
The police said the couple was fighting over property issues. The couple has been living separately for the past one year.
“We have booked Manik under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and several sections of rioting act,” said the police.
