Fake cops cheat 45-year-old woman
ULHASNAGAR: A 45-year-old woman was cheated of Rs 20,000 by two fake policemen at Ulhasnagar on Wednesday.Theirmodusoperandi was the same — they took away her jewellery on the pretext of safeguarding them.
Thewoman,SupriyaBhano,45, (name changed) is a homemaker.
Bhano was returning from the market around 2pm, when two men approached her near Ambrosia hotel in Vitthalwadi and told her that a fight between two groups was taking place ahead.
They said the chances of her jewellery being stolen were high and advised her to remove them and put it in her purse. “After she did that, the men asked her to put the purse inside a plastic bag. They then swapped the bag. When the woman reached home, she realised her jewellery was not in the bag. A complaint was lodged on Thursday,” said a police officer from the Central police station.
Both the accused are yet to be identified. The police have shown Bhano photos of history-sheeters but she has not identified any of them as the culprits. Police are going through the CCTV camera footage.
Theaccusedhavebeencharged under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
