Fake cops cheat 45-year-old woman

ULHASNAGAR: A 45-year-old woman was cheated of Rs 20,000 by two fake po­lice­men at Ulhasnagar on Wed­nes­day.Their­modu­soperandi was the same — they took away her jew­ellery on the pre­text of safe­guard­ing them.

The­woman,SupriyaBhano,45, (name changed) is a home­maker.

Bhano was re­turn­ing from the mar­ket around 2pm, when two men ap­proached her near Am­brosia ho­tel in Vit­thal­wadi and told her that a fight be­tween two groups was tak­ing place ahead.

They said the chances of her jew­ellery be­ing stolen were high and ad­vised her to re­move them and put it in her purse. “After she did that, the men asked her to put the purse in­side a plas­tic bag. They then swapped the bag. When the woman reached home, she re­alised her jew­ellery was not in the bag. A com­plaint was lodged on Thurs­day,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from the Cen­tral po­lice sta­tion.

Both the ac­cused are yet to be iden­ti­fied. The po­lice have shown Bhano photos of his­tory-sheeters but she has not iden­ti­fied any of them as the cul­prits. Po­lice are go­ing through the CCTV cam­era footage.

Theac­cused­have­been­charged un­der sec­tion 420 (cheat­ing and dis­hon­estly in­duc­ing de­liv­ery of prop­erty) of 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.
