17-YR-OLD GIRL LODGES DOWRY COM­PLAINT AGAINST GROOM’S FAM­ILY

KALYAN: A 17-year-old girl from Kalyan lodged a case against a man, who she was to get mar­ried to, for de­mand­ing dowry and ha­rass­ing her.

A case has been filed against Sharad Thakur, the groom, his fa­ther Ra­jen­dra, mother S u re k h a , s i s t e r Jay s h re e and his el­der brother Rahul Thakur.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion is cur­rently on against the res­i­dents of Kalyan (West) and they are yet to be ar­rested.

The girl said that her mar­riage was fixed with Sharad in Fe­bru­ary. In April, Sharad called the girl to his house, say­ing his mother was not well. When the she went to Sharad’s house, she did not found his mother. Sharad alle g edly mo­lested her.

A po­lice in­spec­tor from Khadak­pada po­lice sta­tion said, “The girl was told to get 5 to­las gold and a bike. If the fam­ily did not give the things be­fore mar­riage, they would break the mar ria g e with her.”

In June, Sharad’s fam­ily said they are not go­ing ahead with the mar­riage.

The girl told in her com­plaint that dur­ing the en­gage­ment they had given gold rings and a chain and that Sharad’s fam­ily has ha­rassed her and cheated her fam­ily.

The po­lice in­spec­tor said, “Sharad’s fam­ily re­fused to re­turn the jew­ellery. We will call both fam­i­lies to the po­lice sta­tion and will record their state­ment.”
