The residents realised they had been cheated and approached the accused’s office at Shivaji Road, near Thane railway station.

The office, called Mutha Developers was locked. After repeated calls failed, the residents went to the Khadakpada police station on Wednesday and lodged a complaint against the duo. “During investigation, we found that the accused had given documents to the people, which proved to be fake when they were shown to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation. We have those documents and we are in search of the accused,” the officer added.

The accused are yet to be arrested.
