Fire breaks out at Jogeshwari market, 25 hurt
MUMBAI: Close to 150 shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a furniture market at Ghas compound in Jogeshwari (West) on Friday around 1pm, said fire brigade officials. Authorities are yet to ascertain the total loss of property.
Twenty-five people sustained minor injuries in helping the fire brigade during their firefighting operations, said the Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services.
Local residents say at least two gas cylinders exploded, causing the fire. However, authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
The furniture market which holds at least 1,000 shops, is the second largest furniture market in the city, located on SV road.
Relief Road connecting SV Road and Link Road was closed for traffic after the fire broke out.
SV Road from Behram Baug junction was also closed till Oshiwara bridge for northbound traffic as the firefighting operations was underway.
