MUM­BAI: The Bri­han­mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (BMC) will soon re­lease the third phase of the re­vised draft De­vel­op­ment Plan (DP) 2034 which con­sists of the re­vised De­vel­op­ment Con­trol Reg­u­la­tions (DCR). The re­vised plan, which is ex­pected to have reser­va­tion for women and the phys­i­caly chal­lenged, will be put out to re­ceive pub­lic ob­jec­tions by March 10. The DCR is a set of build­ing reg­u­la­tions gov­ern­ing de­vel­op­ment in the city.

The BMC had re­ceived flak for the ear­lier draft, with ac­tivists even call­ing it a “builder-friendly” DP. How­ever, of­fi­cials said that con­tro­ver­sial clauses like tran­sit-ori­ented de­vel­op­ment (TOD), wherein ar­eas closer to the rail­ways was given a higher floor space in­dex (FSI) is be­ing re-looked at in a ma­jor way. FSI is the per­mis­si­ble built-up area to the plot area. A se­nior civic of­fi­cial from the DP depart­ment said, “We are re­work­ing on the con­cepts based on cit­i­zen sug­ges­tions. We are also look­ing at reser­va­tion for women and dis­abled through this DCR.” BMC is cur­rently re­leas­ing the re­vised plan in four dif­fer­ent phases. While the first two phases con­sisted of des­ig­na­tions and roads, the third is the DCR which will be fol­lowed by reser­va­tions in the fourth phase. The fi­nal DP is set to be re­leased in May, 2016.

The re­vised plans have been put up on BMC’S web­site - www. for cit­i­zens scruity.
