AFTER KALYAN MAN’S ARREST, LOCAL POLICE ON ALERT

- Arvind Walmiki

KALYAN: After the arrest of Kalyan resident Rizwan Khan last week, over his alleged links with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-sham (ISIS), the local police are checking if he radicalized any other person from the area.

Khan was arrested in a joint operation by the Kerala police and Mumbai ATS on Friday night.

The local Bazarpeth police have been interrogating Khan’s friends and relatives. A youngster who lived in Khan’s building said, “Khan used to ask us to see Islam-related videos. Now we know why he watched the videos. He never spoke much to his neighbours. He never got into arguments with anyone from the society. He used to be on the phone all the time. He used to dress in a different way.”

A police inspector from Thane police said, “We are keeping an eye on his friends and the people he was in touch with. He allegedly conducted classes, but we don’t know for what. We are also checking if he had accounts on social networking sites. We have not got any concrete evidence, but as two people from the same area -- Areeb Majeed and Rizwan Khan – were arrested for their alleged links with the ISIS, we are on alert.”
