‘Mee Mumbai’: BJP launches campaign for BMC elections

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: With the Mumbai civic polls less than six months away, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday officially launched its poll campaign. Along the lines of the Shiv Sena’s 2012 ‘Karun Dakhavala’ (Yes, we did it) campaign, the party plans to emphasise how it modernised Mumbai by improving roads, water supply, suburban railway services, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses and introducing new Metro railway lines, said Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar.

The BJP will kick off the campaign with an event on Friday at an auditorium in Dadar (East) where it plans to felicitate railway minister Suresh Prabhu. The party will play a 11-minute video highlighting the measures taken to improve the quality of services on Mumbai’s suburban railways, such as free Wifi and escalators at railway stations, the introduction of 12-car rakes on the harbour line, and improving the turnaround time of services.

The BJP’S campaign title, ‘Mee Mumbai’ is also similar to a Shiv Sena campaign launched several years ago, which called upon Maharastrians in Mumbai to unite under the party’s banner.
