Gopi, Athare bag maiden titles in Delhi Marathon

NEW DELHI: Rio Olympian Thanackal Gopi and Monika Athare won the men’s and women’s titles respective­ly, clocking impressive timings, in the second edition of the New Delhi Marathon on Sunday. Gopi clocked 2 hours, 15 minutes and 37 seconds, just a few seconds off his personal best of 2:15:25. In women’s full marathon, Nashik’s Athare completed the race in 2:39:08 to bag her maiden title at this distance.

HUSSAMUDDI­N IN FINAL

New Delhi Mohamed Hussamuddi­n (56kg) was the lone Indian boxer to enter the final of the 68th Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Hussamuddi­n defeated local favourite Stefan Ivanov.

His compatriot Amit Panghal had to settle for bronze medal after losing in the semifinal.
