Gopi, Athare bag maiden titles in Delhi Marathon
NEW DELHI: Rio Olympian Thanackal Gopi and Monika Athare won the men’s and women’s titles respectively, clocking impressive timings, in the second edition of the New Delhi Marathon on Sunday. Gopi clocked 2 hours, 15 minutes and 37 seconds, just a few seconds off his personal best of 2:15:25. In women’s full marathon, Nashik’s Athare completed the race in 2:39:08 to bag her maiden title at this distance.
HUSSAMUDDIN IN FINAL
New Delhi Mohamed Hussamuddin (56kg) was the lone Indian boxer to enter the final of the 68th Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Hussamuddin defeated local favourite Stefan Ivanov.
His compatriot Amit Panghal had to settle for bronze medal after losing in the semifinal.
