NEWDELHI/SRINAGAR: A first-of-itskind UN report on alleged human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir provoked a strong reaction on Thursday from India, which described it as “fallacious, tendentious and motivated” and a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In the Kashmir Valley, a separatist leader welcomed the report, as did Pakistan’s foreign office. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights sought an international inquiry into alleged abuses.
