Bus runs over man, protesters block traf­fic on Goa high­way

NAVIMUMBAI: Around 100 lo­cals of Kalle vil­lage near Pan­vel blocked the Mum­bai-goa high­way for an hour af­ter a state-run Shivshahi bus ran over a 55-year-old man from the vil­lage on Satur­day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, Lahu Ambu Dar­wada was cross­ing the road around 9.15am, when a bus com­ing from Alibaug and go­ing to­wards Pan­vel hit him. “Dar­wada was se­verely in­jured. He was taken to a nearby hos­pi­tal, but de­clared brought dead,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Pan­vel Taluka po­lice sta­tion. The lo­cals blocked the en­tire road and de­manded ac­tion against the bus driver. “We reached the spot and ar­rested the bus driver, Pradeep Ro­made, 54.We have booked him un­der sec­tions 304a, 279 of the IPC and section 184 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles Act,” the of­fi­cer said.

Ashok Dudhe, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (zone II), said, “We con­vinced peo­ple to clear the road. We have reg­is­tered a sep­a­rate case against them for cre­at­ing prob­lems.”
