Sri­na­gar records 1.8% turnout in J&K lo­cal polls

CHIEF ELEC­TORAL OF­FI­CER OF J&K SHALEEN KABRA SAID, IN THREE PHASES SO FAR, KASH­MIR RE­GION HAS RECORDED 6.7% TURNOUT AND JAMMU RE­GION HAS RECORDED 68.4% TURNOUT

SRI­NA­GAR: The third phase of Jammu and Kash­mir lo­cal body polls on Satur­day wit­nessed 16.4% voter turnout in seven mu­nic­i­pal bod­ies of four dis­tricts, the low­est so far.

Con­tin­u­ing the trend of low voter turnout, the Val­ley recorded 3.5% vot­ing while Jammu con­tin­ued with its healthy vot­ing trend at 81.4% voter turnout in Samba.

Bari Bra­hamana.in Jammu’s Samba dis­trict recorded high­est turnout at 85.73% while in Kash­mir, Bara­mulla’s Uri mu­nic­i­pal com­mit­tee recorded the high­est per­cent­age of 75.3 %.

In Kash­mir, the low­est vot­ing took place in sum­mer cap­i­tal Sri­na­gar with 1.8% turnout.

Chief elec­toral of­fi­cer of Jammu and Kash­mir Shaleen Kabra said, in three phases so far, Kash­mir re­gion has recorded 6.7% turnout and Jammu re­gion has recorded 68.4% turnout, adding that put to­gether, the three phases have recorded an over­all per­cent­age of 41.9%.

In Jammu’s Samba, Ram­garh with 3,547 votes recorded 82.77% turnout, Samba with 12,395 votes recorded 78.77% and Vi­jay­pur with 4,603 votes recorded 85.39% turnout.

Anant­nag recorded a 3.2% polling among 5,469 elec­tors in­clud­ing re-polling at a polling sta­tion where elec­tions could not be held on Oc­to­ber 10 dur­ing sec­ond phase.

There were 365 can­di­dates in the fray for 96 wards of 8 Ur­ban Lo­cal Bod­ies for the 3rd Phase com­pris­ing a to­tal elec­torate of 193,990 elec­tors.
