47-year-old hit by two-wheeler while crossing road in Dombivli, dies

DOMBIVLI: A 47-year-old man from Ambernath died after a two-wheeler hit him from behind while he was crossing the road in Dombivli on Saturday.

According to the police, the deceased, Maruti Sonawane, who works for a private firm, had come to Dombivli for some work.

A police officer form Manpada police station said, “When Sonawane was crossing the road, a speeding two-wheeler hit him from behind owing to which he fell on the road. He was rushed to the hospital by local residents but he succumbed to his injuries mid-way.”

“Based on the statement of an eye witness, a case was registered against the biker under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other Motor Vehicle Act,” the police officer added.

Police said that the number plate of the two-wheeler has not been identified and they have formed a team to investigat­e the crime further.

“His body was handed over his family after the post-mortem,” another police officer said.

The police office further said, “We are checking with nearby CCTV cameras to trace the accused. We have also circulated a CCTV image of the accused in other police stations across the city.”
