LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said the state government had decided to screen each person to check the spread of the coronavirus infection.

The statewide screening drive would lead to an increase in the coronavirus infection data, but it would minimise deaths, he added.

The chief minister was speaking at the launching of a monthlong statewide special vectorborne disease control campaign. Yogi Adityanath said the state government was committed to fighting the coronavirus infection as well vector-borne diseases.

To intensify the fight against the coronavirus, the state government had decided to screen all the people, the chief minister said.

Initially, the statewide surveillance drive will be launched in the six districts of Meerut division: Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Bulandshahar, Hapur and Baghapat on Thursday. Health teams will visit households in the urban and rural areas to screen all the family members, he said.

The drive will continue in the districts of Meerut till July 12. From July 5 to 15, the surveillance drive will be launched in the remaining districts. Its aim is to check deaths by focusing on sample tests, admission in hospitals and treatment.

Around 100,000 surveillance teams have been constituted. The health department had been directed to strengthen the surveillance teams with interdepartment coordination and training, he said.

Despite a large population, Uttar Pradesh had been able to fight the coronavirus effectively, he said.

The number of beds in the designated Covid hospitals had increased to 151,000 and 240 million people in the state were feeling safe during the pandemic, he said.
